If I was a rich girl….

na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

See, I’d have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl…..

A girl can dream right? I thought I’d put together a list of items that would be in my shopping cart tomorrow if I won the lotto.

The Beauty Box

The Beauty Box

I didn’t even know there was any other way to store make up besides a regular old make up bag. When I first saw images of the beauty box all over the internet, I did a HUGE eye roll. Like seriously people? Why so indulgent? *shakes head* How naive I was…. As my make up collection grew, and I got to a point where I’d find a blush or foundation 2 months later, not even realising it was missing, that’s when I came to see that this Beauty Box thing is kind of a must have! It’s made from acrylic and from the The Beauty Box website it says:

Our products are of the highest quality, durable and elegantly designed, individually handmade with gorgeous glass crystal handles.

Not only is it actually really functional…..it’s also really so pretty! When I see it in You Tube videos, I really think it just adds a touch of class to a beauty room/dresser. The 5 drawer one above retails for about R1699, but I see there are ‘build a box’ options on the website so you can start out with one or 2 drawers and grow your collection.

Glampalm Magic Wand

The Glampalm Magic Wand

This curling wand has been on my wishlist for easily 2 years now. I had to make a tough decision 1 and a half years ago on whether to get a curling wand or a new flat iron and I decided on a flat iron. It’s a decision that still haunts me to this day. I have long hair, and honestly all I’ve dreamed about was having long wavy curls a la Kim K…..but alas, it was not to be. I’m contemplating chopping my hair off, because this Kim K hair is never materialising.

What I love most about this specific curling wand is that it’s clipless, so there’s no snagging of the hair or that awkward untangle of the curl. The Magic Wand is available here  on the Glampalm website and retails at R1999. I saw it yesterday being advertised for R1600 on 27Pinkx, which is VERY TEMPTING!

Tarte-Swamp-Queen-Eye-Cheek-Palette

The Swamp Queen Palette

GRAV3YARDGIRL Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette

This palette is a collaboration between Tarte and Bunny from Grav3yardGirl. Bunny is no Jaclyn Hill, but I think that is what the world loves about her…. An ordinary gal (hey she’s like me???) that’s not your covergirl definition of pretty, but she owns the internet with her paranormal videos and the make up and beauty stuff in-between! I have read that she may be (is?) the highest earning YouTube vlogger at the moment. She’s super successful and you can watch her channel over here .

Anyways, back to this palette…I just LOVE the colour selection. I think it’s a great palette with everything you could need: a bronzer, highlighter, blush and then the 9 eye shadows. There’s a combination of matt and shimmer shades. With the colour selection, you could opt to go neutral, but there’s also a pop of colour if you’re feeling more daring.

I think this is a limited edition palette and you’d probably have to go to a bit of trouble to try and get your hands on 1. I was planning to try and get one when it was released on the Tarte website, but wowser, these flew. I’m still hopeful somehow it will happen for me. (Any suggestions for winning Lotto numbers right now would be appreciated).

3nakedpalettes

The Naked and Naked 3 Palettes

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ll know that Urban Decay officially opens its doors in South Africa on the 9th of July. Many beauty lovers and makeup users across South Africa have probably already started withdrawing their pensions to have available funds for all the UD goodness that will be available. I’ve already written about my desire for one of these palettes here, so I won’t bore you with my lustful words about these palettes again.

Sigma Essential Kit

When I started following beauty blogs, all the bloggers owned at least 1 or 10 of these brushes. I fell in love…and then I saw the price tag…..

It’s not about the money, money, money
We don’t need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the price tag

If only it was so easy Jessie J…..

I’ve stumbled onto many other brushes that are now on my wishlist (I’m talking about you Morphe, Kandy Kane, The Real Technique Metal Bold collection, etc), but these remain on my original dream list ❤ They are Available from Sigma Beauty and locally I think you can get them online at Turquoise Studio.

Do you own any of these items? What’s on your wishlist…if you were a rich girl? *na na na na na na na*

Unboxing the #RBsecretbox

Who doesn’t like surprises? I sure do. So when Retailbox releases a new secret box I go bananas.

20160629_090830-01

Out of 25 boxes, I have probably purchased 15 of them. They are incredible value for money and have exposed me to products I never would have heard about and probably also high end products I would not have spent the money on. Now after testing them, there are some I definitely do and will repurchase. Products I’ve received include:

  •  Joico
  • Label M
  • Moroccanoil
  • Kevin Murphy
  • Schwarzkopf
  • La Tweez
  • Milkshake
  • Kardashian Beauty

Okay, so what is a secret box? Exactly that….A secret. These boxes started out being released so hush hush…you only knew about it after it sold out. I realised you couldn’t wait for them…you needed to literally start getting a feel for when you thought a box would be released. The cost of each box varies and with each release a short description of what type of products is given as a clue. Box no. 25 was R230 and the value of the products are R450. So let’s get to it….WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

20160629_091000-01

This in turn ensures optimum condition, resulting in unsurpassed shine and luster. So that’s what I got as part of the Secret Box. Then because I HATE paying delivery fees….and it was payday and you have that Rockafella complex, I decided to order some extras.

ghd Natural Bristle Brush 1 (28mm barrel) (R310 RSP)

I actually had my eye on the size 2 brush, but this one was on sale for R210, so I just got it instead as I did need a smaller blow dry brush that can get close to the roots…coloured hair and all…you know the struggle! I also own the size 3 brush and I love it, because the bristles don’t melt like your regular brushes do with the heat of the blow drier.

Cloud Nine Heat Protect Wand Glove (R65 RSP)

The Heat Proof Glove allows the user to feel the hair properly and allows the user to curl the hair right up to the tip. The Heat Proof Glove can be used on the left hand or right hands. The Cloud Nine Heat Proof Glove is ideal for use with all Cloud Nine styling wands.

We all know how awful it is when you just want to use your hand, but you end up burning the skin off your fingers. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m hoping this will help for the finger burning situation.

All these products are available on Retail Box , except the Secret Box…surprise…it’s sold out 😦 If you’re interested in getting your hands on Secret Box number 26, follow them on social media, or let me know below and I’ll share when it’s available if I’m on it fast enough 🙂

Budget beauty and mini review

I can’t walk into Clicks or Dischem without checking out the budget offerings at the make up section.  I have a big problem… I lured my husband to Dischem under the pretense of us needing formula for the baby. He said he could see how I could confuse the make up section and the baby section when he saw we were standing in front of a stand called ‘Physicans Formula’ 😂😂 Thankfully my husband knows the demons I battle.

So I picked up a few random items this weekend….lets take a look.

20160627_092613-01-02

Nail polish….*sigh* Can you ever have enough nail polish? At this stage I could probably open up my own nail salon.

Essence The Nudes in Nude sweet nude (10)

This is a stunning metallic bronzey nude. I’m obsessed with this colour and already used it this weekend. Metallics are all the rage at the moment, with Colourpop even releasing metallic lip items (that are sadly already sold out), so this nail polish is perfect for the season.

Wet n Wild in Yo Soy (E458C)

This is definitely not a colour I already own. It’s literally like a nude soy colour if that makes sense? I really like it and matched it with the metallic essence shade above over the weekend.

Essence Gel Polish in Serendipity (37)

I would describe this as a really pretty lilac-grey type colour? In the store I couldn’t quite figure out if it was grey or purple….at home I swatched it and a grey lilac is what it looks like to me.

Essence Gel Polish in I 💙 my blue jeans

This is a stunning matt navy blue polish. I’ve been dying to pair this with either a light grey or peach accent sort of situation.

All these polishes applied beautifully with 2 coats.

Essence make me brow gel mascara in browny brows (02)

I’m always looking for good brow products and I’ve been reading that this is quite comparable to Benefit’s Gimme Brow at a fraction of the price. Your make up is only as good as your brow game! I love the brush of this, it’s really the perfect size to coat your brows and the colour is PERFECT for my dark brown brows. I do believe this also comes in a blonde brown as a lighter shade. I still use a gel over this, because I seriously have the world’s most unruly brows, but if pressed for time, I think this is the only item you’d need in your make up bag.

I’ve been on the hunt for the new Essence lip liners, but alas…PE just doesn’t seem to stock it 😦  I just grabbed one of their regular ones in Satin Mauve (06).  A lip liner is really awesome at extending the wear of your lipstick and Essence gives you an amazing product at a really good price. You can afford to get one in every colour.

20160626_152823-02

Next up is this Flannel facial cloth from The Body shop. My sister in law recommended it to me, and TBS was having 20% off on it, so obviously it was meant to be. I wasn’t quite sure if I needed this, but I decided to give it a go last night. I had already washed my face twice and used my Garnier Micellar water to remove my make up. I admit I did a bit of a half arsed job, but I still thought my face was reasonably clean. I rinsed the cloth with warm water and gave my face a wipe…..hmmmm…..make up residue! Oops. My skin also felt really cleansed and soft after I used this cloth. So I’m very happy with this purchase. It retails for R65, but I paid R52 with the promotion that was running this past weekend.

20160626_210412-02

Lastly I picked up these nose pore strips from Clicks. Oh boy….. mixed feelings about this. It did an excellent job in ‘perfecting’ my nose, my nose was so smooth after using it, BUT I think I lost some skin with removing this. I have some tender red spots on my nose this morning. It actually burnt when I washed my face. I’m not sure if I used it wrong or if this was just too heavy duty for my needs. I’ve used pore strips before and didn’t have this problem. So I have a pack to get through, so if I chance it again, I’ll report back if I still have a nose or not.

Well that’s it from me. If you’re interested in any specific kind of posts, please comment below and let me know…and even if you just enjoy reading, say hi below and leave a comment 😉

All these products are available from either Dischem or Clicks and range from R17,95 to R44,95 each.

Tools of the trade

makeup-brushes

I was never really into make up. I dabbled in eye liner in my teens and the ‘brownest ‘ lipstick I could find…you know to match my back to front kriss kross jeans thing we had going on in the 90’s….*hangs head in shame*.  Occasionally I’d get a free eyeshadow with my Clinique, and if I ever bothered to play with it, I’d use that awesome sponge applicator that came with it, or my finger. *shudders at the memory*

Fast forward to 2014/2015 and I start reading beauty blogs and there are a gazillion brushes for a gazillion things! I thought…#MustBuyAllTheBrushes.  It became a bit overwhelming standing and staring at brushes and wondering which I need and which I don’t.  I do own more brushes than I use at this point….so I thought a post to show which brushes you need perhaps as the bare minimum would be a good idea. I’m obviously no guru and no make up artist….just an ordinary gal trying to figure all this out…. so keep reading if you’d like to see what my everyday brushes are☺And please note, I’ve called an expert in to assist me with my recommendations.

UBU beauty Sponge

So my favourite Beauty Sponge is one by CALA, but the little bugger has gone missing all of a sudden. Maybe camera shy? My UBU sponge would have to do then 🙂 Okay….so back in the day, I used my fingers to apply foundation. Wow…how cool hey? NOT. I eventually discovered the flat foundation brush and thought….’aaaaahhhh I’ve arrived’. Nope, apparently not. I started reading about the Beautyblender and it’s dupes and I had to try it. I thought the UBU one was great until I tried the CALA one. It was love at first dab 😍 I can’t use anything else now for my foundation, this just gives such an airbrushed finish. I can’t imagine how amazing the original BeautyBlender is. NOTE: you have to use the sponge after you’ve dampened it a bit. Do not use it dry.

Next up are my 2 eyeshadow brushes. I love these brushes from CALA:

– Shading brush (311) for packing on your eyeshadow onto your lid.

– Blending brush (505) for even blending of all your shadows. Ain’t nothing worse than stop-start eye shadow 😉

20160622_092037-01-01

Concealing brush (408) – This brush isn’t a holy grail kind of brush. I actually prefer to press my concealer in with my finger and then use the tip of my beauty Sponge to blend, but if I don’t feel like using my finger, this is the brush I use.

20160622_091240-01

Powder brush – Everybody needs a fluffy powder brush. This is the only one I own and use, I do think there must be a fluffier brush out there, but as a starter brush this one is great. I use it for my powder and to bronze the outer areas of my face.

20160622_091740-01-01

Real Techniques Blush Brush – This must be my favourite brush that I own💖 It’s so soft and fluffy. I don’t quite know how to describe brushes, this is just so light,  but it picks up a lot of product. So just dab it into your blush and stroke your face lovingly and build your colour if need be. If there’s one brush I’d say you have to have, this is the one.

20160622_091004-01

Real Techniques angled highlighter brush or CALA fan brush – Okay truthfully again, I do prefer to use my finger for my highlighter (especially the Colourpop one due to the texture), but if you have a small angled brush like this or a fan brush, it’s great for sweeping that unicorn glow on the upper parts of your cheeks, your nose, cupid’s bow….wherever you want to sparkle 👑💎I don’t love the CALA fan brushes (which is sad, because I’m obsessed with their brushes!), they just either don’t pick up product or they go wonky after a few washes. So I’llreport back if I find a fan brush that I’d recommend.

There are some additional brushes out there…..okay lots of brushes, but to me, if you just have the above few, you’re good to go.

Do you have a favourite brush or brushes that you can’t do without?

CALA brushes and sponges are available at Dischem.

Real Technique brushes are available at Dischem, Clicks, Foschini, Takealot and Biovea (the last 2 being online). Biovea is where I purchased mine.

Just another ‘mani’ Monday

Get it? Are you singing along? If you’re not…..I’m obviously super old 😂🙈

images

Okay so we’re all about that grey, bout that grey…. My sister will tell you that I can literally do that all day, make a song about everything. Maybe I was a singer in a previous life?

Another thing my sister may tell you, is that I’m obsessed with doing my nails. The more colours and GLITTER, the better. She regularly complains that my nails may actually blind her.

So I’ve been waiting for the Essence ‘All that greys’ collection to hit since about April I think? It was delayed and I thought perhaps I made it up in my head. Finally, when walking into Clicks on Wednesday last week, there it was…with that halo ‘hallelujah’ music playing. Unfortunately there were only 2 colours left, so I took them, along with a lip gloss and some nail stickers.

On Thursday I then went to another Clicks and I found another 2 colours. I think I managed to get 4 of the 5.

20160616_154533-01

From left to right we have:

05 – Roaring red

This is a bit more of a burgundy colour to me and then it has a pearly matt finish. It’s a gorgeous colour. Perfect for winter. At first I thought it was similar to Morgan Taylor’s ‘A touch of sass’, but when I swatched the 2 together,  this is definitely a more burgundy colour.

01 – Back to black

This is also a pearly matt finish. I was quite excited about this one as I thought it was super black, but when I swatched it, it’s more of a very dark grey. It’s still a lovely colour and perhaps better being a more toned down black, so not as goth, if you’re not into that pitch black sort of look.  The pearl flecks are a bit more prominent in this one.

02 – Step into the grey zone

This is a lovely dark grey with a high gloss finish. 2 coats and you’re good to go. The gloss is nice and shiny and I think this colour hits the nail on the head for winter.

04 – Girl with a pearl

I wasn’t going to take this, but I was looking for a white polish that doesn’t look like tippex, and this is perfect. It’s definitely more white than grey, but it’s lovely with the high gloss finish like the shade 02.

All of them need 2 coats for a beautiful even finish.   Personally not a lover of the Matt look, so I add a shiny top coat as well.

I love nail art stickers and already used the pearl stickers. They are just super tiny,  so I need to figure out how to use them a bit better.

I was really excited for this collection and Essence definitely did not disappoint. For the price and quality of their nail polish, there’s truly no excuse not to have a fabulous manicure every day of the week 😉

Lastly the lip gloss is in the colour ‘That’s what Rose would do’ (02) and oh my….I really like this gloss. It smells DIVINE!  Like cauliflower 😂 It’s a lovely sweet smell, but not overpowering and the formula is good. It’s not sticky and I found it lasted quite a while on my lips. After my shower my lips still felt a bit moisturised even though most of it was washed off. In truth I loved it so much, I think I tried not to wash my mouth. Lol. The colour is really really nude on my brown lips, bordering on ashy, but I don’t know, I just really like it.

The nail polishes and the lip gloss retail for R38,95 at Clicks. It is also available at Dischem, but I haven’t seen it there yet myself.

The eyeshadow palette looked great…lovely shades of pink and grey, and swatching it in store, I didn’t find the shadows to be powdery as the cheaper palettes can sometimes be. It seemed to be a decent formula for the price, but don’t hold me too that as it was a quick swatch.

Let me know if you picked anything up in the collection or if you have your eye on anything.

–  Louis Armstrong – When You Wish Upon A Star

So with the launch of Urban Decay happening in SA in a few short weeks…. I thought we’d take a look at why the world is gaga for NAKED palettes!

While I was living under a rock, I knew nothing about Urban Decay….I know, I know…I’m an embarrassment to myself.

Once I started following blogs and YouTube vlogs, the more I saw these babies being whipped out, the more I wanted to know about these palettes.  All the palettes speak to me….I love the neutral shades and how anybody, even an ordinary gal such as myself, can use these.

Urban Decay has been around for about 15 plus years and is a US based company. They are finally hitting SA in July and make up users almost collapsed at hearing this news…myself included.

The first palette…the original Naked palette is the one I’m planning to get my hands on *he’s making a list, checking it twice…..come on Santa, be good to me this year *. I think the shades are GORGEOUS 💖

All swatches of these palettes show that they are very pigmented and if every blogger is to be believed, they have a lovely texture and very minimal fall out. I can only obviously know this once I own one…so I hope my husband reads my blog regularly 😉

If I didn’t own the LA Girl Nude Palette, I’d be all over the Naked 3 palette. I believe it is a good dupe for the palette and I use my LA Girl one almost daily.

Do you own one of these highly sort after palettes? Are you planning to get into the queue on the 9th of July to get your hands on some UD products? What will it be? Remember the first 50 people there get a surprise gift. I’m so bummed I don’t live in JHB. …just for the 9th of July.

So Louis….your song says if my heart is in my dream, no request is too extreme…. #JustSaying #WishingUponAStar

My USA swap unboxed

I belong to an International swapper group where you can swap basically anything (well, not anything…but you know what I mean) within a set budget. You shop for each other and by a certain date you post the items to each other. The group has very strict guidelines and rules, all in place to protect its members.

I’ve done 2 swaps in the group now, having just received my 2nd swap box yesterday! To say I was EXCITED to get this box is an understatement. I love drugstore make up. You get great quality at excellent prices, so I was keen to see what the US had to offer.

So my box arrived, all shiny and PINK! My favorite colour 🙂 The only downer….stupid customs….grrrrrr…. *Insert angry bird that blows himself up emoticon*

20160614_084513-01

Everything was beautifully wrapped as you can see, and she went to a lot of trouble to write a note on each item for me. And that card? How beautiful is it???

If you know about drug store make up in the US of A, you’ve heard of E.L.F. It stands for Eyes Lips Face. I was really hoping to get some ELF products, so I was quite excited to see the loot my swapper sent me. Let’s see what I got from E.L.F…..

Super Glossy Lip Shine ( Pink Kiss)

Off the bat, this smells so nice. Almost like bubblegum, but you know it could actually smell like cauliflower…I’m not really good with descriptions. lol. Also if you accidentally lick it, it’s super sweet…so great if you have a sweet tooth 😉  It’s not sticky, which I like, and to me the colour is more peach than pink, but I absolutely love peachy tones so I’m glad that it’s not really pink.I really like this.

Blush (Glow)

This blush is not like a blush I’ve touched yet, it’s very soft and ‘loose’? It’s not as tightly packed as the blushes I use. It’s initially very pigmented when i swatch it, but when you blend it, the colour disappears into this peachy gold shimmer. This seems to be more like a highlighter to me, so I think it’s going to be perfect in summer as a highlighter.

Flawless Eyeshadow (Beautiful Browns)

So this is a lovely little compact quad for a quick look that you can keep in your bag for touch ups. I did give it a test run today and the lid colour was a bit chalky on me, but I used a very white based primer, so I’ll give it another run with a different primer.

The 3rd colour, the crease colour I really like. it reminds me a little bit of the Colourpop Shadow Shock in Kathleen Lights….not a dupe by any means, I mean there is no dupe for the gorgeousness of Colourpop….but it’s there, hanging around, like staring at Kathleen Lights, maybe wearing the same socks as she is?

Eyeshadow Palette (Mad for Matte)

So I really wanted an only matte shadow palette (with browns) and was planning to go and get one. Somehow my swapper sensed this and she found this one for me. Initially when i swatched it, it’s not very pigmented at all, BUT I’ve gone and googled and I see that a primer is a MUST and then it swatches beautifully. I used it this morning and it was actually quite pigmented, so I’m happy with this.

Lastly from E.L.F, I got some blotting papers…a must have for summer for me and then 2 eyeshadow brushes.

Then there were some other palettes and lipsticks. Also some Freeman face masks, some items for the kids and a key ring from Missouri 🙂

The swapping is really fun, BUT it can be pretty expensive when it comes to postage. This was my last swap for a while though. I’m glad to have done the swap and I’m happy to say we get pretty good quality drug store make up here in South Africa if I compare this to what’s available to us…local is lekker and all (let’s pretend our stuff isn’t imported)……

Would you do a swap? Have you ever heard of or used E.L.F products? If you’d like to see swatches of anything, let me know.
