#RBSecret Box 30 {Unboxing}

Yes it’s that time again, another secret box has been released, though by the time this is posted, box number 31 would also have been released.

If you’ve read my blog before, you know these feature every so often. I always try to get my hands on a box as I believe they’re amazing value for money. When this one hit the www though, I was a little bit strapped for cash so opted against it. I was then informed by a friend that she had actually purchased one for me as a gift and to say I was appreciative and thrilled is an understatement!! Thanks so much for this gift Miss J ❤

The box retailed at R300 and the hint for the box said: Moisturise and gently cleanse your hair with this TrioMy hair is definitely in need of moisturising so I was keen to see what we’d be getting. The box contained the Indola Innova Hydrate Pack and consisted of:

 – Indola Innova Hydrate Shampoo, 300ml (RSP R179,00)

This is described as a gentle shampoo that can be used daily to cleanse and moisturise hair. The formula contains sweet almond oil and provitamin B5 which work together to rehydrate hair and improve shine and strength.

– Indola Innova Hydrate Bi-Phase Conditioner, 250ml (RSP R179,00)

This product is formulated with bamboo extract, pro-vitamin B5, hydrolysed wheat protein and other ingredients to restore and repair hair. This is also a leave in spray conditioner that softens and moisturises dry and brittle hair.

– Indola Innova Hydrate Light Treatment, 200ml (R207)

This treatment contains bamboo milk and works deep into the shaft where it restores the natural moisture balance.

Since blogging, I’ve taken note of the key ingredients in my shampoo and conditioner and I don’t recall trying anything that contains bamboo milk or bamboo extract, so I’m eager to see what this does for my hair.

The box also came with a nifty quilted travel bag that I think will be great for travelling with your hair products OR even as use for a makeup bag. #JustSaying….. All roads lead back to makeup. lol.

All in all the box totals R565 for the items and I’d add on another R80 perhaps for the travel bag, so the box is worth about R645. The Secret Box 31 is still available here for R350, and apparently blondes do have more fun, as this is a box aimed at them 😉

Have you ever bought a Secret Box before? If not, you really should get your hands on one!

Is anybody feeling Sili?

Somebody asked me if blogging was expensive and I said yes it is. You always want to keep up with the trends, review products and try to help your readers make informed decisions. That being said, what works for me, may not work for you and vice versa. Buying even budget brands like Essence and LA Girl tally up when you get to the cashier to pay for your goodies. So at some point I had to draw the line and be like, okay so there’s no Colourpop shipment coming in this week….no new brands, you’re broke…what now? One needs to start getting creative, recycle your makeup, expand your horizons and maybe explore different topics. If I could, I’d own every holiday edition makeup item, but I am not exactly sure where I am able to sell my kidney to make that happen.

Once in a while though, there’s a new trend or new item that takes the world by storm, that you just have to have, and you get the kidney buyers lined up to make it happen. The SiliSponge however is NOT that for me. The beauty pages and the internet is going crazy for the SiliSponge, but i just don’t see myself intrigued by it. I reckon if I feel my BeautyBlender does a good job with my foundation, why do I need one more item to clutter up my makeup space? Okay, so what is the SiliSponge?

It’s basically the equivalent of a bra insert/booster made of silicone. The SiliSponge doesn’t soak up any product, it’s easy to clean and apparently applies your foundation like a dream. Like I said, the internet is going nuts for this and as a result it’s sold out and restocked like crazy!

I just am not feeling this one…. what next? The heel of my shoe to contour? A chicken breast to highlight? If you go to YouTube you’ll find quite a few reviews on the SiliSponge already and even a comparison to the BeautyBlender, so search away if you’d like to see it in action and perhaps decide if this is something you want to try.

Will you be getting silly with the SiliSponge? Am I missing out?

PS Picture taken off the world wide web.

PSS If I have a blog post in the future titled: Wow I love my SiliSponge….throw a chicken breast at me please. ha ha

November favourites

November was very low key for me in terms of my makeup. We weren’t working at the office for most of November and it seemed silly to do a full face of makeup to sit and work in my pj’s on my bed. You understand right? When I did venture outdoors though, I reached for the same things every single time. So even though there’s nothing new on this list, it is genuinely my November favourites

The Benefit Porefessional pro balm has been mentioned on the blog before. Even on no-makeup days I would dab this on the areas I needed um….discretion (enlarged pores are so embarrassing…urg), add some mascara and gloss and off I’d go. I use this balm as a primer as well and I find it mattifies my skin and just helps with the oil control. A little goes a long way, and I just think this is great for summer and oily skin.

Next up is my Comfort Zone palette from Wet n Wild. I like that these palettes take the guess work out of life for you. I can be lazy and read off the eyeshadow: Highlighter, Eyelid, Crease, Definer. Don’t feel like I need a dark outer corner colour today? Skip the dark shade and off I go. I love the quality of the Wet n Wild eyeshadows. The pigment is great. I have a bit of fallout on the darker colours, but I know better now. DO NOT dunk and swirl your brush and then apply…you will be stuck with so much dark shadow on your cheek that you may need to redo your whole face. ha ha. I do a light tap, dust the excess off and then apply.

I have been LOVING this Volume Million Lashes Mascara (Feline) from L’Oreal. Forgive the creepy eyes insert…but I was halfway with doing my makeup and thought a pic would be nice. I literally was not even done with my eye makeup….so ignore everything in this picture, but my eyelashes. On the left (your left) is what it applies like with one coat of mascara vs the right eye that has no mascara. I meant to go in with 2 coats, which I did, and then promptly forgot to photograph. Oops.

You can see the wand has this curve in it which seems to create some flick at the end of my lashes and create this slight ‘feline‘ look to the lashes. It doesn’t clump, it seperates my lashes and adds volume. PS Wow…. I have really wrinkly eyelids. EEEEKK.

To set my makeup, I cannot bring myself to use any of my other sprays, but this one from Beauty Fix ( now called Me & Youth). The spray is now called  ‘Quick makeup fix‘ spray. Sadly I think I am down to 2 more sprays and this is finished….kaput, so I will be repurchasing this soon. I’ve used other sprays and nothing gives me the dewy finish this one does. Also, that rosewater scent is DIVINE! I can bath in that scent ❤

For my nails I’ve been OBSESSED with this Revlon Gel Envy nail polish in the colour ‘Full House‘. My husband is also a huge fan of this colour. He seems to have quite an opinion on my nail colour selection, so because he is so keen on this colour, today my nails are all blue with a glitter accent on the ring finger (not pictured here).

Lastly, whenever the holidays (ANY holiday) come up, I get excited, because it means my favourite marshmallow pies from Woolworths are back in season!! I literally had to save this one after eating my way through 4 strips I bought with the intention of photographing. You can see this poor guy has been through the ringer with its creased packaging….so you’ll be happy to know I put it out of its misery 5.4 milliseconds after taking this picture. *covers eyes*

What were you loving in November?

Gift ideas {Under R200}

I LOVE buying Christmas presents, but as the years have gone by and the family has grown, I find the budget is unfortunately getting smaller and smaller when it comes to Christmas gifts. I thought a gift guide would be nice to help you spot some gifts in different price ranges, this one being gifts under R200. I’m hoping to do one in a higher price range. Let me know if you’d like to see that?

I’ll be going from left to right.

  1. Golden wonder ballistic from Lush. This is a bath bomb that looks like a little present. If you shake it, it actually has a little bell inside so it rattles. Super cute and the kids love these. There are usually little stars in the middle as well, so when it fizzes and foams, there are these gorgeous stars floating in the water as well. I think they do dissolve if memory serves me correctly. These bath bombs have a wonderful citrus scent as they’re made with sweet orange, lime and congac oils.
  2. Also from Lush we have the Lemony Flutter hand cream. This is a lovely thick and moisturising cream that nourishes your hands, feet and any other dry areas you may have. I mostly use this to get my cuticles looking moisturised as they can get quite dry from my OCD hand washing habit that I have. This cream smells so lemony…it’s divine.
  3. Who doesn’t need slippers? I am always keen on a new pair of slippers and I love these ‘Novelty Band’ slippers from Woolworths. They look like cute and cuddly bunnies ❤
  4. As I mentioned, I have an unhealthy hand washing obsession and this causes me endless problems with dry hands. I love these combo gift sets from Woolworths and this is a White tea hand wash and lotion set. I have no idea what this smells like, as I haven’t used it, but the idea of white tea for some reason intrigues me.

5. I spotted this Chilli Addict set at Woolworths and I told my husband that I have to have it! There are 5 bottles: Spicy Sriracha, Chipotle Jalapeno, Spicy Peri-Peri, Fiery Habanero and Ghost Chilli. Chillies are life? Chillies is life? Chilli is life? Well, you know what I mean. I can literally add chilli to everything, so I need to try these sauces.

6. So you know chillies and chocolate…life, right? You can NEVER go wrong with a box of Lindt chocolate. Never. These are currently on special at Clicks on a 3 for 2 promo. No reason to be gifting bad chocolate to people this Christmas! No excuses!

7. Wet n Wild’s Color Icon Eyeshadow in Walking on Eggshells is a winner for sure! Their eyeshadows are so soft and buttery and also really pigmented. I love my Comfort Zone palette as well from Wet n Wild, but didn’t include it here, as the trio’s are currently on a 3 for 2 promo at Clicks, so more bang for your buck!

8. We all know what a mission it is to store makeup brushes. I thought one of those travel roll up makeup bags was a great idea, but to open and close it all the time is a pain in the buttocks. I love The Petunia by Lilli Makeup Boxes. It has little compartments to seperate the different brushes (if you have OCD tendencies like that), so I think this is perfect for brush storage. I’ll be doing a review on this and another box soon once my order arrives. #EarlyBirthdayPressieForMe

9. LA Girl Beauty Brick Eyeshadow in Nude. If you follow my blog, you know that this palette is one of my absolute favourites. I cannot believe that a dupe for a certain well known palette, at this price, can be of such amazing quality!  These are available at Dischem.

10. Watching you tube videos you always see the ladies with these gorgeous brush holders behind them. Bedazzled, in gold, something pretty. When I look at my makeup space, I always wish that I had something cute to just add some pizzazz and prettiness to my space….enter these Glitter Holders from Nisa (Miss Belle Blushh herself). There are about 6 different designs and they are available for sale here. I cannot wait to add one or 2 to my makeup space. Wakeup, Makeup & Slay….hell yes!

11. This Rose Gold round large candle holder from Clicks I think is gorgeous. Rose gold is the rage…well it has been for a while now, so I was drawn to this immediately. I just think it’s beautiful and it’s on the 3 for 2 promo at Clicks as well.

12. I’ve been loving Typo for a while now and I’ve been buying their ‘heat sensitive‘ coffee mugs as gifts for a few people. I don’t know…I just love the concept of your coffee cup changing colour and revealing writing once the coffee is in the cup. Sorry for the bad picture quality. This one changes from: ‘Size Matters’ to ‘Size Matters, Nobody Ever Orders a Small Coffee’. I think it makes a cool gift.

13. Another cute gift from Clicks is this Glass Jar filled with scented tea light candles. The Jar says: To Love Laughter and Happily Ever After. The jar can be used as a storage jar for the candles or a cookie jar, so it’s dual purpose. So cute.

I must apologise for the bad picture quality. I used a different photo editing app and after uploading and seeing the quality, I honestly didn’t feel like redoing everything. It took forever and a day to figure out how to get them as they are now….so I’m really sorry.

Well that’s it for my gift ideas under R200. Anything you have your eye on for yourself or a loved one? Do you have any budget gift ideas to share? If so, leave a comment below.
