The best money saving app around!

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but life is getting pretty darn expensive on the home front and I have 3 kids that literally eat me out of house and home, so I’m always trying to save a buck.

I love the ideas of coupons and vouchers, but I honestly always forget to use them. I found a fabulous site last year where they gave some pretty good discounts, where they’d send the discount as a code to your cellphone. When you make the purchase, you give the cashier the pin and you get the discount on the product/products. Fantastic right? No….because I only remember I have a code when I’m at home, 7hrs after I’ve made the purchase.

So a few weeks ago a friend was blabbing on and on about this cool ‘snap and save‘ app she uses. I tried to ignore her,  because it sounded like too much effort. #MomLife with 3 kids and a travelling husband…I ain’t got no time for effort. Eventually she convinced me to download the app. I started playing around with it and I then realised this was absolutely PERFECT for me! I kicked myself for not having gotten this app ages ago when she first recommended it to me.

So what is SnapnSave? It’s a shopping app that allows you to shop and collect your discount after you’ve done your shopping. Kind of. Let me explain the process.

Register

You download the app and register with your cellphone number.

Offers

There are always offers for you to ‘book’.  New offers are usually loaded on a Friday at 12pm where we all anxiously sit and refresh the page and book what we can. #FastestFingers

Offers include fresh produce, canned goods, pet food, baby goods, deodorants, hair products, CHOCOLATE, etc.

Untitled

As you see in the screenshot above, you scroll through and you click ‘book’ on whatever you want or whatever is available. If the offer is fully booked, click on ‘notify me’ and the app will book the offer for you automatically if more ‘vouchers’ become available.

WhatsApp Image 2017-04-24 at 12.53.37

Snap

So now you’ve booked your offers, you have 48hrs to make the purchase. You go to the store, grab some groceries and when you get home, you go…’hey I had a bunch of booked offers’.

You go into the app and click on the ‘snap’ icon in the centre at the bottom of the screen (see image above) and the app will ask you where the slip is from and which offers the app needs to look for on the slip. You just click on the items as they appear on your ‘booked offers’ list.  Also, in case you hadn’t booked an offer previously, but you’ve bought an item with an offer linked to it, you can select it from the list. You then snap the slip and make sure everything is clear, as displayed below.

The Correct Till Slip Snap

Save

That folks is it. The slip goes into a ‘pending’ state until it’s been verified. This usually takes up to 4 working days. Once it’s been verified, your ‘cashback’ goes into a virtual wallet. Once you’ve accumulated more than R10, you can opt to have your credits sent to you in the form of a WiCode to use at selected retailers OR you can have the cash transferred into your bank account. EFT payments are usually done on a Friday, but I do know they are working on having the EFT’s done faster and more frequent.

13432212_972139179501409_6480040784353691314_n

I got over R100 back in cash last month and I opted to have the funds transferred. I ain’t got no time for codes….lol…but this honestly is so easy.

Just shop and before you toss the slip, snap…and save! (Okay don’t actually throw the slip away in case you need to resend it. because you took a bad #SlipSelfie ) I have however never had a comeback or error on any of my slips.

The things I love the most about this app is:

  • No reward card to carry with you
  • No need to remember any codes
  • You get cashback on items that are on promotion as well (i.e. The bread is on special at Spar for R10,99 and you book a bread offer of R1,25. Essentially you’re paying R9,74 for a loaf of bread. I got a snicker for FREE last month. Oh yes…this is my kind of app gals ❤ )

If you register using my referral code, we both get R10 free cash automatically once you’ve completed your first snap. You then also get your own referral code that you can pass on to friends and family.

I did have the option to set up a code for the blog, but seeing as this is a post I planned to do of my own accord, because I’m so excited about this app, I have just used my regular referral code. If you don’t click on the link, feel free to enter promo code: Simonec608 and that will get you your R10 join up starter cash 😉 If you don’t want the free 10 bucks, feel free to ignore my code completely 🙂

So guys and gals…have you heard of this app before? Do you think you’ll sign up? Do you know of any other money saving apps or websites you’d recommend?

March Boxycharm {Unboxing}

This box was quite late…almost a month late, but I believe it was due to bad weather conditions mid March and this seemed to have caused a MAJOR delay in shipping. I wish Boxycharm addressed it sooner, but they did eventually send an email to update us.

Boxycharm must be one of the best things to happen to me! I get so excited when I receive this box, despite already knowing what’s in it. You cannot beat the value…I don’t even know how they do this…get us such top quality products for what we pay for it! If you want a run down of how boxycharm works and how to join, please check out my previous unboxing. Let’s dig in!

20170410_164247-01

The theme of the March box was ‘Creepy Cute’ and I’m not entirely sure why. I think most of us ‘Charmers’ were a little confused as it seems kind of halloween-ish, but nevertheless, I’m all about what’s in the box and not what the box is called.

20170410_164354-01

When I do the rand value estimate for the item, please know that it’s a ballpark figure, especially with the unstable rand at the moment.

Urban Rustic Palette by Naked Cosmetics (RSP $39,99/R550)

This was the item I was most excited to receive. I think these colours just scream AUTUMN and I mean, look at those swatches? I think the burnt orange is gorgeous. The shadows are so soft and the finger swipes were really pigmented. That’s one swipe. I think finger application with this palette will be the way to go, but I’ll try it with a brush as well.

20170410_165208-01

SS023 Deluxe Fan Brush by Crown Brush (RSP $18,99/R260)

The description card says this brush is great for highlighting, but many of the YouTubers were saying they thought this brush was too big for highlighting. One vlogger eventually had an aha moment and thought this was perfect for contouring or bronzing. I stroked this across my cheek and I feel like it would be really good for contouring, so that’s what I’ll attempt, seeing as I am no contouring guru by any stretch of the imagination.

20170410_165425-01

Photo Finish Primer by Smashbox (RSP $16,00/R220)

This is the OG of Smashbox’s primers and it claims to ‘instantly blurs fine lines and pores, leaving skin with a velvety-smooth, even finish.’ I’ve only used the primer water from Smashbox, so I’m really excited to see if this lives up to it’s claim. It’s oil free and promises to make me look 17…that’s the claim right? lol. I’ll report back. Note that this is a deluxe sample size. I’m guessing around 10 or 15mls. I see that 30mls retails for around R440 online.

20170410_164917-01

Matte Liquid Lipstick by RealHer (RSP $15,00/R210)

My lipstick came in the shade ‘I am a Rockstar‘.  I love the positive message that the brand creates with the shade names. While applying it, tell yourself… I am a freakin rockstar! This lipstick was really pigmented and I actually love the colour. The lipstick claims to be ‘long wearing and completely kiss proof, this bomb formulation helps to combat dryness and nourish your lips’.

There is a tip on the information card that says while wet, resist the urge to press lips together. I did not resist and I found the lipstick to be incredibly sticky. Unwearable it was so sticky. So I’ll resist next time and I hope it dries down. I think it will though as on my arm it dried down when I did a swatch.

20170410_165029-01.jpeg

Lipliner by RealHer (RSP $12,50/R175)

I got the shade ‘I am loved‘ which was a match to the lipstick, so I was happy about that. The lipliner is incredibly soft and creamy, BUT it broke as I pressed way too hard when I did the swatch. I believe that I can sharpen it, so I just need to check online.

20170410_165055-01

So the total value of my box was $102,48/R1428 and I paid around R290 and R120 for shipping with Aramex, bringing my cost to R410. I do not understand how Boxycharm does this. #MindBlown. No customs charges on my purchase.

What did you think of the items that I got? The April box contains an OFRA HIGHLIGHTER! To say I am excited is an understatement. Whoop!

The #MorpheMe brush subscription

I recall many moons ago when I started reading beauty blogs, I could not fathom why beauty bloggers needed so many brushes. Is it greed? Indulgence? Were they just too rich? Then I bought my first makeup brush. I’m sure it was a CALA eyeshadow blending brush. That snowballed and I started trying and buying more brushes. I realised all brushes are not created equally, hence the quest for the best makeup brushes actually never ends…..AND the dirty brush problem…the struggle is real…so just buy more apparently. lol

I’d hear a lot of beauty personalities go on and on about Morphe brushes. Every fabulous YouTuber has a Morphe discount code for you to use and I hoped one day, when the rand was super strong, I’d be able to place an order and the hard part would just be deciding if I was using Jaclyn or Kathleen’s code. I was due to be waiting a long time….until I stumbled upon a post by Nisa from Belle Blushh where she mentioned she was trying out this new brush subscription after cancelling a lipstick box subscription. I immediately clicked on the link and signed up. Yes….it’s that easy when you’re in the throws of a makeup/beauty buying addiction.

Okay, so LiveGlam currently has 3 different subscription options:

– The brush club

– The lipstick club

– The polish club

I signed up for the #MorhpeMe brush club. It’s a monthly subscription that costs you $19,99 per month and you will get brushes worth at least $30 delivered to you. I pay an additional $7 to get them shipped to South Africa. In total this came to roughly R360.

On 31 January I placed my order and through a very trying and patience testing snail mail delivery system, my brushes eventually arrived at my local post office on the 11th March. I had a customs bill of R24….SERIOUSLY???? Urgh….

17267985_745294132306436_82661173065395732

The February brushes were from the gun metal range and I received:

G36 – Round Powder (RSP $13.99)

Use this Round Powder brush to apply powder foundation flawlessly or to blend out a contour. This synthetic brush is ultra-soft and gets powder exactly where it needs to be.

G33 – Angled Buffer (RSP $8.99)

Our new Angled buffer is perfect for under eye makeup. Buff concealer under your eye, exactly where you need it. The shape of this brush targets all the areas that can crease easily.

G34 – Mini Round Buffer (RSP $8.99)

This small synthetic brush is perfectly dense for buffing in concealer to flawless coverage.

Then, because I clicked on a sign up link, I also qualified for a free brush and received:

E22 – Pointed Blender ( RSP $6.99)

A small, tapered blender with just a bit more density than your average crease brush. Perfect for buffing out over applications of eye shadow or blending away harsh lines.

The brushes excluding my freebie, were valued at $32/R420 vs the R384 I spent (incl. customs). That’s R96 per brush. I doubt you’d be able to buy these for less than R100 – R200 per brush in SA. Maybe even more.

IMG-20170403-WA0023-01

The March brushes arrived on 3 April, after having been shipped on 1 March. The brushes I received were:

M401 Large Pointed Powder (RSP $13.99)

Use this large, natural hair, powder brush to define your cheekbones, set your under-eye, or add a light dust of powder!

M412 Deluxe Pointed Blender (RSP $5.99)

This fluffy, pointed eyeshadow brush will help you achieve a blended crease or add a pop of accent color. – I can already tell that I am going to LOVE this brush!

M521 Chisel Oval Shadow (RSP $5.99)

This natural hair eyeshadow brush will help you pack on color and carve out a perfect crease!

M436 Mini Duo Blender (RSP $6.99)

Try this duo-fiber synthetic and natural bristle brush to apply a flawlessly airbrushed foundation, concealer, or powder!

The retail value of the March brushes are also $32/R420.

So besides the fact that this is cheaper than ordering locally, there are a few other benefits to subscribing with LiveGlam.

  • You can pause your subscription anytime.
  • After the brushes are revealed for the month, you can opt to exchange/trade these brushes for some other brushes on offer, before they are shipped to you.
  • You accumulate rewards points by subscribing and referring friends, that you can use towards makeup items or free brushes. (i.e. I get 100 points a month for being subscribed. For 225 points I can get a LA Girl concealer. 850 points gets you a Tarte mascara. 200 points gets you a Morphe brush.)
  • You also get a free brush if you get a friend to sign up through your own referral link. The (obviously very good) friend also gets a free brush when using the link.

Feel free to use my  referral link if you want to sign up 🙂 We both score, so why not? he he

So that’s the rundown of the #MorpheMe brush subscription. I think it’s a fabulous way to try out new brushes and to get your hands on the cult favourite Morphe brushes ❤

Let me know what you think of the subscription and if it’s something you’d consider signing up for? Also do you know of any other cool makeup or beauty related subscriptions that are accessible internationally?

{Unboxing} Boxycharm

I’ve been watching Kathleen Lights do her ‘boxxxy ssshhhharm unboxing’ every month and had major envy at the fact that the US gals can get makeup and goodies valued at over $100 for a mere $21.

On a whim one day I went onto the site. I saw that they will send a box to a mail forwarding address (like Aramex), so I just signed up.

What is Boxycharm? It’s a monthly makeup and beauty subscription box that costs $21 and offers 5 full sized products to try out. The value of the box seems to range from $80 to $140. That’s insane value for money! In addition to the goodies in the box, you also earn CHARMS for being subscribed and for referring friends, which you can use to purchase beauty products on the site. Feel free to use my referral code if you want to sign up 😉

I signed up on 3rd February and expected the money to be deducted immediately, when an email came through saying I was on a waitlist. How long I’d be on….I didn’t know 😦 I went onto their social media pages, and many people were in the desperate position I was in, on the dreaded waitlist. I checked daily, logged in, emailed, chatted on social media….like a real crazy stalker person….when EUREKA….3 weeks later on the 27th, the transaction went off my account which meant I was off the waitlist, still in time to qualify for a February box.

On the 7th March my box was shipped. By the 9th it was with Aramex and it was delivered to my door on the 15th. Excellent service from Aramex which I’m happy about as there have been a few complaints lately about the service, but I really could not ask for better service! What was in my box?????????????????????????? Gals…the excitement is real!

WhatsApp Image 2017-03-16 at 9.33.09 AM.jpeg

So inside my box I got:

IMG-20170315-WA0018-01.jpeg

Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion (Age defying exfoliator) (RSP $80)

IMG-20170315-WA0017-01

ZPalette (small – RSP $14)

IMG-20170315-WA0019-01

MakeUp Geek Eyeshadows in Cherry Cola and Prom Night (RSP $6 each)

Omnia eye brushes (RSP $26)

IMG-20170315-WA0022-01

Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss (RSP $15)

That is $141, which is around R1800 worth of products! That’s insane!!

If you sign up now I’m pretty sure there’s a waitlist, but gals…the wait is worth it in my opinion. I paid R125 in shipping fees and no customs. So in total this box cost me around R400. Bargain Beauty for high quality products. I’ve always wanted to try Makeup Geek eyeshadows and also have always wanted my very own Z-Palette. I’m one really happy gal ❤

What do you think of the box? Would you sign up?

PS If you are wanting you very own Aramex account, I have discount code for free registration. Use code 100AGS081 and you’re on your way to happy international shopping ❤ In the words of Maui….You’re welcome 😉

Shopping with Pink Cosmetics {International brands}

I first came across Pink Cosmetics after I joined a beauty page on Facebook. I was intrigued, because I LOVE the colour pink! So already I knew this was a website after my own pink heart ❤ Pink Cosmetics is owned by Janet, who is a qualified beautician. She makes the most GORGEOUS bath bombs, soaps and hair products, amongst other things. PINK stands for: Perfectly Inspired by Nature’s Knowledge, so with this knowledge, she ensures that her products are paraben, sulphate and petro chemical free!

All this is obviously great right? But it gets even better….Janet is an importer of international makeup brands as well! Most brand you can think of, she stocks. Needless to say she’s a very popular lady on the group. She’s also known to go the extra mile with speedy deliveries and sometimes a little extra goodie in the package which is appreciated. A LOT.

In December last year Janet was advertising the Tartelette In Bloom palette on the group and I was smitten. I went and researched it, stalked it online, looked at swatches….I was in love. I fell hook, line and sinker. The only problem is I had treated myself to way more birthday presents than I told my husband about….lol…so I could not justify the purchase. Every once in a while I went to peep at the link, and that darn palette was still there.

20170112_135607-01.jpeg

I was watching the Kathleen Lights ‘Best of beauty 2016’ upload and this palette made the cut. I was even more smitten….if that’s possible. If Kathleen loved it, I HAD to have it! Sometime at the beginning of January I think, I must have been drunk and went and drunk dialled the palette on the link….declaring my undying love and telling it how I just could not forget about what we never had. Janet messaged me and said she had the palette in stock and and and…… it didn’t take much convincing, throw in free shipping and a deal I could not refuse, I told her to invoice me.

20170111_154458-01.jpeg

It arrived shortly after she opened for business in January and I was so surprised to see an extra little goodie for me on top of the excellent service! The SLMissglam beauty sponge ❤

The palette….the packaging feels luxurious and sturdy and it looks very high end with the gold and shades of pinks and purples on the outside. When you open the palette it has the faint smell of chocolate, very much reminiscent of the Too Faced chocolate bar palette that I chatted about here. It has a large mirror which I quite like. There are 12 shades, 3 shimmers and 9 matte shades. These matte shades are so smooth and soft…almost satiny. Definitely not dry and chalky like some mattes can be. The shades are also nicely pigmented. This palette was definitely money well spent ❤

712-alt-2

Image taken off the Tarte website.

I’ll give you a quick rundown of the shades row by row, left to right:

Charmer – a matte vanilla shade

Jetsetter – a matte milk chocolate brown

Rocker – A taupey shimmer? This may be my favourite colour in the palette

Smokeshow – A cool toned matte dark chocolate brown colour

Flower child – A cream matte shade

Smarty pants – Shoot how do I describe this one? A matte caramel shade?

Firecracker – I’m a shimmer ho…I won’t lie. This gorgeous bronzey copper shade is so divine!

Activist – Also a dark chocolate brown matte shade, but slightly warmer toned than Smokeshow

Funny girl – A shimmery champagne shade

Sweetheart- Gorgeous matte pinky peach shade

Rebel – A matte terracotta shade?

Leader – This is also a brown matte shade when swatched, but it has brick red kind of undertones.

This is such a versatile palette and you literally don’t need anything else. You can do day time looks, natural neutral looks, more glammed night time looks with a smokey eye. Literally anything. I really love this palette and I have a feeling it’s going to be my favourite for a while ❤

sponge_grande

I’ve had a chance to try the sponge out and I really like it as well. It’s very soft and swells a lot when wet. It blends my foundation nicely. You’ll notice it also has the smaller flat part at the tip which is great for your under-eye concealer and powder.

So gals, that was my experience with Pink Cosmetics (I believe a name change may be on the cards). If you’re looking to shop for international brands, and you’re scared because so many people are selling FAKE MAKEUP, rest assured, you can shop with confidence on Janet’s website ❤

Do you own the In Bloom palette? I’m dying to try the shape tape concealer next! I believe it’s the holy grail of concealers. Have you tried any Tarte products?

Colourpop haul!

There’s something about a Colourpop haul that just fills your soul with butterflies and rainbows ❤ I’ve spoken about my love for Colourpop before, which you can read about here.  In November last year, I saw that Colourpop was offering free international shipping. I had to jump on it, because once shipping and customs come in to play, Colourpop is not as affordable to us in South Africa as it is to US residents, so free shipping helps a lot to keep the costs down!

20170130_132104-01.jpeg

So….what did I get?

1. On a Whim – mini ultra satin lip kit (RSP $18)

  • Magic Wand: Ultra Satin Lip; light nude
  • Mess Around: Ultra Satin Lip; mid-tone greige
  • Stud: Ultra Satin Lip; warm brown terracotta
  • TooLips: Ultra Satin Lip; deepened plum brown
  • Dopey: Ultra Satin Lip; muted pink

These were much smaller than I expected. I’m not sure how many uses I’ll get out of it, but it’s a nice way to test out a range of colours and then order the full size in the one you absolutely love. I can’t comment on the formula or wearing time as I haven’t used these yet.

2. Supershock shadows in ‘Just Fur Fun‘ and ‘I heart This‘ (RSP $5 each)

On first impressions, I do not love these eyeshadows…and that’s a first for me when it comes to the Supershock shadows. I expect them to be very pigmented and these 2 just are not. The swatches above are 2 generous swipes and still, you can barely see ‘Just fur fun’. I had to use another eyeshadow with it after realising the pigment was just lacking. ‘I heart this’ is very glittery to me with barely any colour payoff. I’ll play around with it a bit more though, and report back.

3. Lippie Stix in the shade ‘Cami‘ (RSP $5)

Let me tell you, this lippie stix is the best thing I’ve ever bought from Colourpop. I am in love with the colour and the formula. People say that the matte lippes are drying on your lips, but I find this to be very comfortable on my lips and I just love the colour. It’s more mauve than in my swatch. In the swatch it looks more brown, but I definitely think it has beautiful mauvey undertones and on the lips, it’s gorgeous. I think it would go with any skin tone.

Also the wearing time is good. I had it on for a good 5 hours (through 2 parties), ate and it was still on my lips. It was slightly faded, but still there. My husband has requested that I only wear this on my lips every day. That’s how much he loves it. lol.

On the shipping, I was told my parcel was lost so wasn’t expecting it to arrive. It took a full 2 months to get here. I see people are waiting 3, 4 and even 5 months with the international shipping, so you need to be patient. Customs is ridiculous considering this wasn’t even a $40 or $50 order. Customs and fees amounted to about $18, so keep that in mind when ordering any makeup overseas. Sometimes it’s worth it to rather order from a 3rd party seller here in SA if you want your costs to be predictable.

If you order directly, take advantage of the signup promo where you get $5 off your first purchase! That’s ‘Cami’ for free 😉

What’s your favourite Colourpop product? Or your least favourite?

EyeSeeHue Makeup haul

My friends who know me, know that I love to enter competitions! I tend to win a few once in a while and they always ask: ‘How are you so lucky?’ My reply is that you have to be in it, to win it! I am a mom of 3, struggling to pay her bills and keep the makeup addiction alive, just like any other family out there in these tough times. If I can try my luck at winning something I could never afford or things I really really wished I owned, why not? Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

In December I don’t know what happened….lucky, blessed, whatever you want to call it, that was me. Okay I don’t win cars or R5000 in cash, but these little prizes make my heart all warm and fuzzy ❤ To me, it’s HUGE! I entered a competition on @JoziStyle to win a R1000 shopping voucher with EyeSeeHue Makeup and one morning, at 5am when insomnia was winning….I decided to check my emails and saw the delightful news that I’d won. I was ECSTATIC. Sephora, Too Faced, Eyeko……EEEKKK….any beauty junkie’s dream spree!

img_20170112_181835_358

On Tuesday evening I selected my goodies and by Thursday morning they were on my doorstep…while I was at work! Talk about FOMO. When I got home, I greeted my kids, ate supper and then calmly went to sit down so I could open my package and savour the moment. So what did I order?

20170113_142429-01

First up was this Sephora face mask set that contains 6 sheet masks. Each mask contains different ingredients and extracts (related to the name) to target a specific skin concern.

  • Orchid  – Anti aging and smoothing
  • Lotus  – Moisturising and soothing
  • Algae – Purifying and detoxifying
  • Rose – Ultra moisturising and brightening
  • Pomegranate – Anti fatigue and energizing (I have 3 kids…much needed! )
  • Avocado – Nourishing and repairing

This set retails for R400.

20170113_142313-01

EEEEEEPPPPPP I can’t help but feel excited about trying this mascara out! This is a cult favourite, as evidenced by the amount of You Tubers that rave about it and love it. Initially it was out of stock, but the beauty gods knew my heart, because when Andrea contacted me to select my items, there it was, with a shining halo of light….*sings ‘Hallelujah, hallelujah…* So this is the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara and it’s a full sized mascara.  The box promises more volume, more curl, longer lashes and drama! So we’ll see if it lives up to its reputation. The RSP is R330 which is amazing considering it goes for just under that on the Too Faced website.

20170113_142340-01

The last thing I ordered was the BeautyBlender as I always need more beauty sponges and I was hoping to get a pink one. I got the red one, which I do already own. The sponge is GREAT, really worth it’s price, but the red one bleeds like crazy, so that’s the only thing about the red one that I don’t love. Once its been washed 100 times the colour is really ugly, but it still does its job and I’m not too offended by it…and I won it, so really not complaining, just letting you know what to expect if you get a red one. This has a RSP of R350.

As if winning this voucher was not enough, Andrea also kindly threw in a Sephora Kiss Me lipbalm in Cotton Candy as an extra little gift. It smells amazing and it’s just so freakin cute ❤ My sister entered to win this competition as well and she wanted one of these lipbalms….I’m considering gifting this to her. Pay it forward and all that you know, but this just smells so good….not sure if I’m going to be kind in this instance. lol. The lipbalm retails for R120.

I for one will definitely be supporting Andrea in future as her prices are just so competitive! Seriously go check out the Chocolate Bar palette on her page that I spoke about in my previous blog post. I can’t wait to see what other products and brands she’ll be bringing in next. I’m not sure if she’ll read this blog post, but Andrea, thanks again. Your babies have gone to a good makeup loving home ❤

Do you spot anything here that you’d like a review on or that you’d like to get your hands on?
