Let’s glow girl!

It’s become quite obvious that the highlighting trend is going absolutely NOWHERE!

Highlighters have become a staple for everybody since Kim K¬†changed the makeup game with her highlighting and contouring back in 2012. Though mind you I only found out about highlighting in 2014…2015? Late bloomer is too kind of a term for me and my makeup discovery, but moving along….so a few new highlighting palettes have hit or will hit our faces soon and many of us will be spending hundreds of rands/dollars to add yet ANOTHER highlighting palette to our collection, because you know…we can never own enough highlighters.

I thought I’d give you all a rundown of the ones that have caught my eye ūüėČ

BECCA x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette

This consists of 2 Shimmering Skin Perfector Highlights, one being a new shade called ‘Beach Nectar’. There’s also a Luminous Blush in the shade ‘Hibiscus Bloom’ and a Sunlit Bronzer in the shade ‘Malibu Soleil’. All are new with the exception of the highlight in the shade ‘Rose Gold’. This palette will be released in early May and I see it will retail for $46 on the Becca website.

I haven’t seen any swatches yet, but I love the look of the bronzer. It doesn’t look too warm or too ashy so I’m interested to see this on the skin. The ‘Beach Nectar’ highlighter I am also digging just on appearances alone. I think this is an interesting palette, but the reviews will be rolling in soon I’m sure and then I’ll decide if this goes onto my wishlist or not.

Huda 3D Highlighter Palettes

The Huda palettes actually launched yesterday I believe and they come in 2 shades, one called ‘Pink Sands‘ for fair to medium skin tones and a second palette called ‘Golden Sands‘ for medium to darker skin tones. Huda claims that what makes these so different is that they are infused with Shea butter¬†so the oils allow for a more luminous and natural glow.

Also, there’s a unique layering system and guide for applying this and the information is provided for each shade of the palette, so that’s quite interesting. I think one has to be thinking out of the box to make your highlighter attract a crowd these days, so this is definitely an interesting angle. I watched a video on this and I noticed this highlight does not sit on top of the skin. It was actually very glowy¬†and pretty in a more natural way.

These are retailing for $45 on the Huda website.

I know the reviews for the Rose Gold palette were very mixed and varied, so this is another one I’ll be waiting on reviews for.

NARS Banc De Sable Highlighter Palette

Image taken from Temptalia ‚̧

When applied wet, these highlighters work with the skin‚Äôs surface to create a supernatural glow. The three shades are designed to layer endlessly and illuminate all skin tones. They can be applied dry for a shimmering veil of second-skin color, or wet for a high-impact glow that instantly blends into skin. They can be worn alone or layered‚ÄĒon the face or eyes to enhance your natural features.

This palette contains:
Р3 x 0.11 oz/ 3.4 g Highlighter in Rivage (glistening pearl), Salé (shimmering peach champagne), Embruns (metallic rose gold)

This is a limited edition palette and retails for $49 at Sephora. I think this is stunning! The embossing on the actual product is gorgeous. I’ve watched and read some reviews and this does seem to be quite a metallic intense sort of highlight.

I wish Sephora would ship internationally or even just to Aramex ūüė¶

I think I’m leaning towards the BECCA palette more¬†due to the inclusion of the¬†bronzer. Obviously this also depends if I’m able to get a buyer for my one of my kidneys, because the heart is willing, but the wallet laughs at me.

Are there any other new highlighters or palettes that you know about? Do you plan to grab one of these?

EyeSeeHue Makeup haul

My friends who know me, know that I love to enter competitions! I tend to win a few once in a while and they always ask: ‘How are you so lucky?’ My reply is that you have to be in it, to win it! I am a mom of 3, struggling to pay her bills and keep the makeup addiction alive, just like any other family out there in these tough times. If I can try my luck at winning something I could never afford or things I really really wished I owned, why not? Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

In December I don’t know what happened….lucky, blessed, whatever you want to call it, that was me. Okay I don’t win cars or R5000 in cash, but these little prizes make my heart all warm and fuzzy ‚̧ To me, it’s HUGE! I entered a competition on @JoziStyle¬†to win a R1000 shopping voucher with EyeSeeHue Makeup¬†and one morning, at 5am when insomnia was winning….I decided to check my emails and saw the delightful news that I’d won. I was ECSTATIC. Sephora, Too Faced, Eyeko……EEEKKK….any beauty junkie’s dream spree!

On Tuesday evening I selected my goodies and by Thursday morning they were on my doorstep…while I was at work! Talk about¬†FOMO. When I got home, I greeted my kids, ate supper and then calmly went to sit down so I could open my package and savour the moment. So what did I order?

First up was this Sephora face mask set that contains 6 sheet masks. Each mask contains different ingredients and extracts (related to the name) to target a specific skin concern.

  • Orchid ¬†– Anti aging and smoothing
  • Lotus ¬†– Moisturising and soothing
  • Algae – Purifying and detoxifying
  • Rose – Ultra moisturising and brightening
  • Pomegranate – Anti fatigue and energizing (I have 3 kids…much needed! )
  • Avocado – Nourishing and repairing

This set retails for R400.

EEEEEEPPPPPP I can’t help but feel excited about trying this mascara out! This is a cult favourite, as evidenced by the amount of You Tubers that rave about it and love it. Initially it was out of stock, but the beauty gods knew my heart, because when Andrea contacted me to select my items, there it was, with a shining halo of light….*sings ‘Hallelujah, hallelujah…* So this is the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara and it’s a full sized mascara. ¬†The box promises more volume, more curl, longer lashes and drama! So we’ll see if it lives up to its reputation. The RSP is R330 which is amazing considering it goes for just under that on the Too Faced website.

The last thing I ordered was the BeautyBlender as I always need more beauty sponges and I was hoping to get a pink one. I got the red one, which I do already own. The sponge is GREAT, really worth it’s price, but the red one bleeds like crazy, so that’s the only thing about the red one that I don’t love. Once its been washed 100 times the colour is really ugly, but it still does its job and I’m not too offended by it…and I won it, so really not complaining, just letting you know what to expect if you get a red one. This has a RSP of R350.

As if winning this voucher was not enough, Andrea also kindly threw in a Sephora Kiss Me lipbalm in Cotton Candy¬†as an extra little gift. It smells amazing and it’s just so freakin cute ‚̧ My sister entered to win this competition as well and she wanted one of these lipbalms….I’m considering gifting this to her. Pay it forward and all that you know, but this just smells so good….not sure if I’m going to be kind in this instance. lol. The lipbalm retails for R120.

I for one will definitely be supporting Andrea in future as her prices are just so competitive! Seriously go check out the Chocolate Bar palette on her page that I spoke about in my previous blog post. I can’t wait to see what other products and brands she’ll be bringing in next. I’m not sure if she’ll read this blog post, but Andrea, thanks again. Your babies have gone to a good makeup loving home ‚̧

Do you spot anything here that you’d like a review on or that you’d like to get your hands on?

Too Faced Chocolate Bar review and dupe

Firstly, happy 2017 to everybody! I hope you all had a lovely festive season with your nearest and dearest ‚̧

I cannot believe that 2016 flew by so fast! My older 2 kids started Gr. 3 and Gr. R yesterday and I just feel as if I’m going to blink and this year will be over too. I’ve made it my goal to NOT wish away any time this year. To live in the moment. To enjoy my kids, my husband, my chaos, my life. I wish that 2017 will be all you want it to be and more.

Okay, so we have the formalities out of the way, let’s get to today’s post. Way back in July of 2016, I shared a blog post about the Makeup Revolution I ‚̧ Chocolate palette. I also wrote about how I wished I owned the original Too Faced chocolate bar palette. Ladies, I sent that wish out into the universe, and it was granted by a lovely UK blogger named Jo, and her blog is called Flourish & Blotting. I was overjoyed when I received the email from her that I had won the giveaway on her blog and I remain very grateful today still for this amazing win ‚̧

I apologise that the pictures of the actual palettes together are not identical or actually next to each other, as I took the pictures seperately and have sadly, re-gifted my beloved MR palette so I cannot take pictures of it to match the Too Faced palette.

My Too Faced palette arrived late last year and I was absolutely giddy with excitement when it arrived (minus the joke my husband made about them having lost the parcel *insert my not impressed face*. When I opened the box, the packaging is sleek, and not as bulky as I expected. It has a magnetic closing mechanism, so you know it’s closed when you close it. Once you open it, you get a whiff of the delicious chocolate scent that just makes you smile. The scent is so delicious though, that at one stage my daughter was regularly taking a swipe of eyeshadow to eat it! I KID YOU NOT! I quickly had to put an end to that, especially when she’d bring her friends around to sample it too???? Oh my soul.

There’s a mirror inside as well which is always great for makeup on the bed, or makeup in the office, etc. There are 16 shades in the palette, a mix of mattes and shimmer shades and the colours are a mix of browns, pinks and plums.

So let’s swatch!

The Too Faced swatches are on the left and the Makeup Revolution on the right. I’ve used the names from the Too Faced palette for identifying the shades.

As you can see, many of the swatches are almost identical and I actually have 2 that I prefer in my MR palette…..sorry, now my sister’s MR palette. (It really broke my heart, but I didn’t see the point of owning 2 similar palettes ūüė¶ ) The main differences are in the matte shades for me where the MR shades are just a bit chalky when compared to the TF palette, but otherwise MR serves up a really good dupe with amazing quality for the price. The shimmer shades are really pigmented.

In the TF palette, the only disappointing shade for me is the Strawberry Bon Bon. I just don’t find it to be very pigmented and I had to pack a lot on and still didn’t feel I got a good colour payoff. Salted caramel is my absolute favourite colour in this palette for the crease. I just could never find the perfect transition shade for the crease and I now use this shade to start most of my makeup looks.

So if you have the $49 for the Too Faced palette, you cannot go wrong treating yourself to this palette. The shades are buttery,¬†so pigmented and blend like a dream. There’s also a fantastic selection of colours, for the everyday gal, the ordinary gal, the glam gal…there’s something for every gal in this palette ūüėČ However, if you don’t have $49/R660 for the palette (and you unfortunately cannot win one), you will not regret spending $10/R134 on the Makeup Revolution palette. These prices obviously excludes shipping and customs. They are available through quite a few 3rd party sellers in South Africa, but at a higher cost due to customs and shipping. If you’d like details on where you can purchase either of these palettes, leave a comment below and I’ll try to assist.

Do you own any of these palettes or any other palettes from either brand that you feel is a must have?

New Real Techniques Bold Metal Brushes

1448 and 1443 together-M.JPG

How gorgeous are these? ‚̧ I’ve always wanted to own any brush from the Bold Metals collection, but sadly, I can’t afford them. That doesn’t mean that I can’t admire them like a stalker though. So when news hits that 2 new brushes are being launched? Be still my heart!

The Triangle Concealer Brush (1443) is the gold one. I actually love the idea of this brush. 3 sides, for concealing, blending and spot coverage. I think especially when you want to conceal a spot, it’s nice knowing that you can isolate one side of the brush for that and not spread any nasties to the rest of your face.

The silver one is the Tapered Shadow Brush (1448). This brush is described as ‘densely packed and precision cut for a smooth foundation of eye colour’.

These brushes¬†are available at various retailers and will retail around R329,95 (shadow brush) and R379,95 (concealer brush). They’re launching in November sometime, so keep an eye out for them.

Do you own any Real Technique brushes? Their regular blush brush is my absolute favourite brush!

If I was a rich girl….

na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

See, I’d have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl…..

A girl can dream right? I thought I’d put together a list of items that would be in my shopping cart tomorrow if I won the lotto.

The Beauty Box

The Beauty Box

I didn’t even know there was any other way to store make up besides a regular old make up bag. When I first saw images of the beauty box all over the internet, I did a HUGE eye roll. Like seriously people? Why so indulgent? *shakes head* How naive I was…. As my make up collection grew, and I got to a point where I’d find a blush or foundation 2 months later, not even realising it was missing, that’s when I came to see that this Beauty Box thing is kind of a must have! It’s made from acrylic and from the The Beauty Box¬†website it says:

Our products are of the highest quality, durable and elegantly designed, individually handmade with gorgeous glass crystal handles.

Not only is it actually really functional…’s also really so pretty! When I see it in You Tube videos, I really think it just adds a touch of class to a beauty room/dresser. The 5 drawer one above retails for about R1699, but I see there are ‘build a box’ options on the website so you can start out with one or 2 drawers and grow your collection.

Glampalm Magic Wand

The Glampalm Magic Wand

This curling wand has been on my wishlist for easily 2 years now. I had to make a tough decision 1 and a half years ago on whether to get a curling wand or a new flat iron and I decided on a flat iron. It’s a decision that still haunts me to this day. I have long hair, and honestly all I’ve dreamed about was having long wavy curls a la Kim K…..but alas, it was not to be. I’m contemplating chopping my hair off, because this Kim K hair is never materialising.

What I love most about this specific curling wand is that it’s clipless, so there’s no snagging of the hair or that awkward untangle of the curl. The Magic Wand is available here¬†¬†on the Glampalm website and retails at R1999. I saw it yesterday being advertised for R1600 on 27Pinkx, which is VERY TEMPTING!

The Swamp Queen Palette

GRAV3YARDGIRL Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette

This palette is a collaboration between Tarte and Bunny from Grav3yardGirl. Bunny is no Jaclyn Hill, but I think that is what the world loves about her…. An ordinary gal (hey she’s like me???) that’s not your covergirl definition of pretty, but she owns the internet with her paranormal videos and the make up and beauty stuff in-between! I have read that she may be (is?) the highest earning YouTube vlogger at the moment. She’s super successful and you can watch her channel over here¬†.

Anyways, back to this palette…I just LOVE the colour selection. I think it’s a great palette with everything you could need: a bronzer, highlighter, blush and then the 9 eye shadows. There’s a combination of matt and shimmer shades. With the colour selection, you could opt to go neutral, but there’s also a pop of colour if you’re feeling more daring.

I think this is a limited edition palette and you’d probably have to go to a bit of trouble to try and get your hands on 1. I was planning to try and get one when it was released on the Tarte website, but wowser, these flew. I’m still hopeful somehow it will happen for me. (Any suggestions for winning Lotto numbers right now would be appreciated).

The Naked and Naked 3 Palettes

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ll know that Urban Decay officially opens its doors in South Africa on the 9th of July. Many beauty lovers and makeup users across South Africa have probably already started withdrawing their pensions to have available funds for all the UD goodness that will be available. I’ve already written about my desire for one of these palettes here, so I won’t bore you with my lustful words about these palettes again.

Sigma Essential Kit

When I started following beauty blogs, all the bloggers owned at least 1 or 10 of these brushes. I fell in love…and then I saw the price tag…..

It’s not about the money, money, money
We don’t need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the price tag

If only it was so easy Jessie J…..

I’ve stumbled onto many other brushes that are now on my wishlist (I’m talking about you Morphe, Kandy Kane, The Real Technique Metal Bold collection, etc), but these remain on my original¬†dream list ‚̧ They are Available from Sigma Beauty¬†and locally I think you can get them online at Turquoise Studio.

Do you own any of these items? What’s on your wishlist…if you were a rich girl? *na na na na na na na*
