#RBSecretBox 33 {Unboxing}

If you follow my blog, you’ll know that I love surprise boxes and the one from Retail Box features regularly as a must have for me. If you’d like to check out previous boxes, check out this post or this one.

This month was a whopper of a box…in size and price. ha ha

The box was a bit pricier than usual, but I knew it had to mean we were getting some really good products….and after the brand reveal…I knew I had to have it. So let’s dig in!

Moroccanoil Repair Shampoo and Conditioner – 500mls each (RSP R1 230)

The Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Duo will help to nourish, soften and hydrate your hair. Ideal for dry, damaged and chemically treated locks, these ultra-nourishing products work together to infuse your hair with intense moisture and hydration, leaving it soft, supple and manageable. –Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo 500ml: Enriched with argan oil, keratin, fatty acids and proteins, it gently cleanses your hair to leave it soft, shiny and full of bounce. –Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner 500ml: Formulated with the same ingredients as the matching shampoo, it gently de-tangles and reconstructs your hair to get it back in prime condition. Rich and luxurious, your hair will be left wonderfully soft and easy to manage.

Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong – 75mls (sample size worth R85)

Moroccanoil extra strong, finishing hairspray provides long-lasting hold for the most demanding hairstyles. Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray Extra Strong is the ultimate setting hairspray that secures special-event styles: from sleek ponytails to chignons to red-carpet looks. This high-performance, argan oil-infused extra hold formula veils hair in a reflective shield of shine that fights humidity and frizz, yet brushes out easily and leaves no sticky residue.

Moroccanoil Oil Treatment for all hair types & fine hair – 5mls each (sample size worth around R27 each)

Moroccanoil Oil Treatment is an ultra-light formula which is absorbed by the hair instantly, resulting in a natural, silky finish and brilliant shine without leaving a residue.

Also in the box was a cute thick plastic sort of beach bag. I think it would be nice to store your hair tools in (flat irons, blow drier, etc) and brushes or to use as a shopping bag for your toiletries. Let’s value the bag at around R50, so that brings the total of this box to around R1 419 and the box cost R495. That’s quite a bargain for top quality hair products.

One of my absolute favourite Morrocanoil products is the heat protection spray (not included in this box). It’s unrivaled in terms of the shine, scent and the smooth finish it gives my hair.

Lastly, because you have to spend over R500 to qualify for free shipping (sneaky Retail box with that 5 bucks), I threw in this pack of invisi bobbles that was on sale for R40.

My order was placed on Thursday and it was delivered by Monday morning. The customer service at Retail Box is really great and it’s one of my favourite online shopping spots.

All in all this was a fabulous purchase. There are still some boxes left if you want to grab one over here. Did you get yourself one of these boxes?

Is there Power in Makeup?

So today I’m not talking about a product I love or hate. I want to say I’m straying off course, but whose course? This is my blog so I set my own course…right? I had this thought spinning around in my head and I thought it would be interesting to see how others felt about this topic.

I’m sure by now many of you have seen the video by Nikkie Tutorials titled The Power of Makeup? If not, check it out here. What it’s about is how makeup can transform you, highlight features you love, hide or distract from features that you hate.

Okay so nobody should be hating on themselves, but as women , we know it’s inevitable. I hate my nose, my scarring, my small eyes, my small mouth…..you catch my drift. We all have something that we want to fix, hide, highlight, etc. I used to be one of those opinionated (read JUDGEY) women that would be like: Why does she wear so much makeup? Why does she wear makeup every day? Well now I know….she likes it. She doesn’t need to give me or anybody else a reason. It empowers her, whatever the reason is….let the makeup wearer wear her makeup in peace!

I attended a birthday event over the weekend and I was not feeling it. I’ve gained so much weight, I’m not comfortable in my own skin, but you know what…my makeup game was fierce and it definitely empowered me to not allow my weight to get me down. To me, that’s what I personally love about it.

Then on the other side of the coin, we read about Alicia Keys’ stand against makeup…. #nomakeup movement. After feeling like she always had to hide behind makeup and hide who she really was, she decided she is going au naturel and penned this letter that you can read here. Her letter makes a lot of sense, but I’m guessing as a celebrity she faces a lot more scrutiny than us regular folks which has made her feel this is how she gets her voice across. I appreciate her natural beauty and the raw images from the photo shoot. They’re still stunning. With the right angle, blemishes and all, I’m guessing some wonderful photographer could also highlight my natural beauty that my poor obviously blind husband seems to think I have.

I know many women that don’t wear a stitch of makeup and I think they’re stunning, real life friends, acquaintances, celebrities. Let me just say: NOBODY NEEDS MAKEUP. If makeup isn’t your thing, that’s great. You’re saving a lot of money believe me!! Stay away from the insanity 😉

Do I feel like makeup is a mask that I hide behind? Definitely not. I’m sure there are people that will think or say: Well we know that’s not what she really looks like. Do I care? Hell no. It’s a tough world out there, if I feel good wearing makeup, as fake as what anybody thinks it it, your problem, not mine. Makeup lifts my mood…I find it therapeutic, heck even a bit artistic, but I wear no makeup more than I do actually wear makeup. Depending on my mood, depending on time constraints, depending if I have any clean brushes available (ha ha)…….that’s how I determine what the look of the day is. Kim K glam (just kidding) or chic hobo (just kidding again…okay not kidding).

Is it a problem that I feel prettier on the days I wear makeup? I don’t know. I don’t think it is. You fit into a certain size jeans…that validates some people. The way your hair is styled or coloured….your shoes. Training, healthy eating, a Big Mac…..everybody has something that makes them feel good about themselves. For me, right now, makeup is fun, so I embrace and enjoy it, but I definitely don’t hide behind it ❤

What are your thoughts? Power of makeup or #nomakeup?
